A sample of items up for auction at this year’s Deer & Outdoor Expo

The 2018 PA Deer and Outdoor Expo hosted at the Harrisburg Farm Show complex by the PDFA was well attended. The PDFA saw just over 300 people pass through the doors on Saturday April 7th. The event room was full of booths ranging from outfitters to deer farmers and various state organizations such as the PA Farm Bureau and the Pa Department of Ag, all in support of the deer industry in PA. The event kicked off Friday afternoon as board members and general membership all pitched in to set-up for the weekend event.

In addition, on Friday afternoon a portion of the executive team consisting of PDFA President, Glenn Dice and Vice President  Jarrid Barry along with Legislative committee member Josh Newton attended a meeting across the street at the Department of Agriculture. Overall the meeting was productive, and PDFA Leadership will continue committing ourselves to having a voice on the regulatory aspects of our CWD programs.

Saturday Morning’s show started early with final preparations for the days event. Voting of new leadership took place in the morning with the announcement of the new board members at lunch time. A free lunch was served to all in attendance and the benefit auction kicked off at Noon. More than 250 auction lots were donated, generating a solid funding resource for the PDFA boards efforts in the 2018 year. The day was full of raffles as a group of young lads rallied to sell tickets for a high end crossbow, 50/50 raffle tickets and various other raffles. Additionally our annual gun raffle, supporting the PDFA PAC fund was a success as Darin Witmer proved once again that he is our man to pick the best guns on the market for the annual gun raffle.

As usual the support from PDFA members was clearly evident in the attendance and moral of all within the room. It is this participation and excitement of our members that continues to drive the PDFA board to advocate on behalf of its membership. On behalf of the PDFA board of directors, please allow me to personally thank you for your generous donations and support. It is an honor to serve all the deer farmers in our state, and PDFA  will to continue to dedicate its time to preserve, protect and  promote this industry for all of its members.

Respectfully,
PDFA Vice President
Josh Newton
